Auction for renovation of the “Pleiades” plafond

The Polish Academy of Sciences Botanical Garden in Powsin and the FANGOR Foundation would like to invite you to take part in an auction to save a historic plafond by Wojciech Fangor. The exhibition of works can be viewed from 27 September to 11 October at the Fangorówka gallery.

In Villa Fangorówka, you can admire the first monumental work by Wojciech Fangor – the “Pleiades” plafond, painted by the artist as his diploma work under the supervision of Professor Felicjan Szczęsny Kowarski. It gives the place a unique character and is the most important testimony to Fangor’s presence in Powsin.

The work, created 77 years ago and measuring 9 m x 4.5 m, needs conservation as soon as possible, hence the initiative to organise an auction, the proceeds from which will go towards its restoration. The auction included 30 works by artists who have taken part in exhibitions held at the Fangorovka over the past three decades. The artists who donated their paintings include Anna Buczkowska, Józef Wilkoń, Magdalena Shummer-Fangor, Jolanta Caban, Iwona Ostrowska and Paweł Górski. In addition, the FANGOR Foundation has donated a Fangor drawing from 1973.

This is an appeal not only to lovers of the Botanic Garden in Powsin, of whom there are many, but also to a large group of art collectors, and especially admirers of the work of Wojciech Fangor, to support this initiative and participate in the auction.

The exhibition can be viewed from 27 September to 11 October at the Fangorówka gallery. The auction will take place at the same time on the auction house portal www.artbidy.com. Those interested will also be able to purchase bricks in the form of magnets or make a targeted donation of any amount.
